History of Twinings

At Twinings, tea is our passion...

The Twinings story began in 1706, when Thomas Twining opened the House of Twinings in Tom's Coffee House on London's Strand. Tom's Coffee house was the centre of business for some of the most renowned men of learning at the time.

In 1717, Thomas Twining expanded the business to meet the growing opportunity in tea and opened The Golden Lyon. The Golden Lyon was purpose built to meet the needs of the ladies of London, who were otherwise unwelcome at the male dominated coffee houses of the day. The Golden Lyon tea and coffee house remains today at 216 The Strand in London.

In an age where coffee shops were prevalent, not even Thomas Twining could have imagined how much his company would grow and how many people all over the world would come to love drinking Twinings teas. Whilst much has changed over the past 300 years, our principles of using the finest ingredients and expertly blending every one of our teas remains the same.
We love that a great cup of tea can work wonders in such a beautifully simple way. It can help you feel invigorated or relaxed, or even better, have you laughing with a friend during a much needed break.

So, with over 25 Twinings blends being sold in Australia alone, we're sure there is a blend within our range that you'll love.
